Preparing for Your First Appointment

Many patients prefer to print and complete the comprehensive New Patient Forms before their first appointment. Alternately, you may plan to arrive 20-30 minutes prior to your first appointment to complete the paperwork at the office. The acupuncture Health History Questionnaire form asks questions about your current state of health, past illnesses, and family history. These questions are important because the holistic approach of Oriental Medicine takes everything into account. Your current symptoms may not seem related to past health issues, but our bodies are complex landscapes and everything that happens to them leaves its mark.

First Appointment (1.5 hours)

After reviewing your intake form, we will discuss your condition, and Nachelle will examine your pulse and tongue, which are two of the basic diagnostic methods of Oriental medicine. The acupuncture points she selects will depend on your condition. Once the needles are in place, Nachelle will leave you to lie comfortably for 20-30 minutes. Many people find acupuncture treatment deeply relaxing, and it is not uncommon for patients to fall asleep during this time. After returning to the treatment room to remove the needles, Nachelle will provide recommendations to optimize treatment results.

Follow-Up Appointments (1 hour)

At each follow-up appointment, Nachelle will discuss any progress or changes related to your main complaint since your previous treatment. She will also review the current state of other mind-body systems (such as gastrointestinal, neurological, and reproductive health) and reevaluate your tongue and pulse. Nachelle will use this information to confirm or modify her diagnosis and treatment strategy. Next, Nachelle will proceed with her gentle acupuncture, giving you ample time to close your eyes and relax deeply so your body can integrate the treatment.

A Few Recommendations

1.  Wear loose clothing to each appointment
2.  Drink plenty of water throughout the day before (and after) your appointment
3.  Eat a small snack before treatment (to avoid an empty stomach), but refrain from eating a large meal directly before your appointment
